Newsletter 4th November 2011 - Blog Edition
I hope that you all had a restful half term break. The children certainly seem to have been very busy. I have enjoyed hearing about the various trips and activities they have been involved in.
Thank you to everybody who filled a Shoebox for the Rotary appeal. I am very pleased to announce that we filled 106 boxes this year. Thank you to the school council for organising this appeal. The Rotarians collecting the boxes were overwhelmed by the number of boxes.
We enjoyed a wonderful day with Phil from Zoofari on Thursday. The children experienced a number of animals including a 15ft Python, a meerkat and tortoise. They all learnt a great deal about each of the creatures and their habitats.
Poppies will be on sale on Monday. We are asking for a minimum donation of 20p.
Thank you to everybody who supported the cake sale on Fri 21st Oct. Year 5 raised £53.75. Thank you to all of FoHBs for their support.
Thank you also to FoHBs for their recent donation of £3000 to the school. Which has enabled us to order six i pads with a docking / charging / synchronising station. The I Pads will be available for all of the children throughout the school once the Apps have been loaded on to them. The educational uses for i pads are vast and we are very excited about using them to further enhance and enrich our curriculum.
Please remember that nobody should be in the playground before 8.45am. There is no member of staff on duty until this time the school is not responsible for the children, so they are not insured if there was to be an accident.
Well done to the Learners of the week, we are very proud of you all.

EYFS Christmas Concert
This year our Foundation Stage children (EYFS) will not be involved in the Infant Nativity due to the larger intake of children. We can not fit 90 children on to the stage or their parents into the hall. The EYFS children will be performing a Christmas Concert on the 9th December at 2.45pm to which all parents / carers are warmly invited.
School Council News
Children In Need Day
This year Children In Need Day is Friday 18th November and we will be having a non uniform day.
The School Council are asking children to dress in ‘Crazy Dress’, for example, wearing pyjamas (over normal clothes), dressing up outfits or something unusual. In order to take part each child will need to bring in a minimum donation of £1.
On Thursday 17th November we will be holding a Blue Peter Bake Sale and we would like everyone to bring in something they have baked at home for us to sell at 3pm. We would like both savoury and sweet items. Please mark any items that may cause allergies and remember nothing must contain any nuts or trace of nuts.
We are holding a design a poster competition to advertise the Bake Sale. Please design a poster on an A4 piece of paper. This is to handed to your class councillor by Fri 11th Nov, don’t forget your name and class on the back!
Christmas Cards
Christmas cards were sent home yesterday. If you would like to purchase any Christmas Cards the orders must be returned to the school office by Thursday 17th November.
Parents premises group
I am interesting in starting a parent / carer premises group to complete small tasks around the school on a Saturday morning. We will be able to offer food and coffee in exchange for any support that you may be able to offer this may include painting / gardening etc. We currently have a project which we do require some expertise with. I would like to build a path to the Gazebo in order to be able to use it all year round. I have the slabs and other materials but would really appreciate support from anybody with building expertise in laying the path, together with support from other parents/carers.
If you are would like to help in the premises group please give in your name to the school office. I would like to hold one ‘meeting’ before the Christmas Holidays. If you are able to help lead the ‘path project’ please contact Mr Driver.
Parent / carer forum
The parent / carer forum met today for the first time this year. Thank you to all of the parents/carers for attending. A Parent Forum Update will be sent out with next week’s newsletter. We will include in each newsletter a section which details all of the letters sent out this week from school – a point raised at the forum today.
